in a tv interview last night, romney did a complete about-face, saying the statement was completely wrong. >> clearly in a campaign with hundreds, if not thousands of speeches and question and answer sessions, now and then you'll say something that doesn't come out right. in this case i said something that is completely wrong. and i absolutely believe, however, that my life has shown that i care about 100%. and that's been demonstrated throughout my life. and this whole campaign is about the 100%. when i become president it will be about helping the 100%. >> pretty interesting, though. after he said it he said it was inelegant but it's what he meant and now he's saying it's completely wrong. you can really see an evolution there as the general election gets closer and maybe he tries to move a little bit to the middle. >> i wonder -- now he'll be accused of flip-flopping again. that will be the argument they'll continue to use. the reason he came out and strongly stated that's not what he meant is so that president obama can't use it against him going forward. >> it was a good line he used

mitt romney had a particularly good night. did he have had v a good night or was the president off? i think mitt romney had a great night and the president was off. what happened? >> i think both. i think mitt came prepared. mitt was on fire. all he had to do and think about was this debate. and the president was flat. i don't know what else was on his mind, it could have been his anniversary, what is going on in syria and turkey, because he is busy running a country while running for re-election. i don't know what the problem was, but you're right, he stunk it up. i'm sure at this point he knows he stunk it up. i think it was a five-point swing since the debate. so now he went from being up 20 heading into the fourth, now he's in overtime and has to pull it together. he was going into it way ahead. >> you know we are nonpartisan and not about talking points, why does every single liberal say no one called out mitt romney's lies? i get responses here, why don't you guys call out mitt romney's lies? the middle of the debate, it is not up to the media nor the moderator to call out lie

what do you say to mitt romney? >> well, first of all, i do think the start of the presidential campaign in some ways start wd the debate the other night. i think only partisans watch the convention. a lot of the real undecided voters started to tune in. he had a good night, he can build on that. i think what he has to do, though, is not just become the biggest critic of the president. i think other people can do that effectively. he has to start showing his vision and how to give hope to people of why america is going to be better under mitt romney and also let them see him personally. get to know him and see that he's actually a pretty darn likeable guy once you get to know him. >> can he win from here, do you think, john? >> oh, absolutely. i mean, we have already seen some of the polls that came out today since the debates show a great tightening. we have also seen there's been a big influx of money for mitt romney which will for the first time put him on an even parity with obama on advertising, and like i said
